Obverse
On the obverse of the 2025 Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coins, youll find King Charles III. This portrait by Steven Rosati marks the third royal portrait by a Canadian artist and the first monarch depiction in this series other than Queen Elizabeth II. The design features His Majesty in left-profile relief without a crown. The inscriptions read CHARLES III, 1 DOLLAR, and 2025.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 2025 Maple Leaf 1/20 oz Gold Coin displays the sugar maple leaf, a design first introduced in 1979 with the 1 oz gold coin. This symbol is used across all weights in the Gold Maple Leaf Series, as well as the Silver, Platinum, and Palladium Maple Leafs. The inscriptions include CANADA, 9999, FINE GOLD, and 1/20 OZ OR PUR.
History
The sugar maple leaf has evolved from a crucial resource for Indigenous peoples to a prominent symbol of Canada. Its representation in Canadian heraldry and daily life highlights its significant role in the country’s history and identity.
