{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}Lions have played an important role in British heraldry since the 12th century, largely due to the influence of the Plantagenet kings and the spread of heraldic customs during the Crusades. In 2025, The Royal Mint introduces a new bullion coin series that pays tribute to this historic icon. Provident Metals now offers the 2025 British The British Lion 5 oz Silver Coin to collectors and investors.
Highlights:
All 2025 British The British Lion 5 oz Silver Coins offered here are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Each coin is packaged individually inside a plastic capsule and features a detailed reverse with a modern security design. The background on the reverse has a surface animation effect that displays the Union Flag.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2025 British The British Lion Silver Coin displays the official portrait of King Charles III. Created by Martin Jennings in 2022, this left-profile bust of the King is shown without a crown and was the first of its kind on UK coins. The inscriptions include CHARLES III, D G REX F D, and 10 POUNDS.
Reverse
On the reverse side of the 2025 The British Lion 5 oz Silver Coin, a bold image of a lion is presented. David Lawrence designed this artwork, which shows the lion sitting in a proud left-profile pose. The lions mouth is open in a roar, and one raised paw rests on a circular shield in front of its body. The inscriptions read LEO BRITANNICVS, 5 OZ 999, 2025, and FINE SILVER.
History
King Henry II, who reigned from 1154 to 1189, helped establish the lion as a royal emblem, especially through his marriage to Eleanor of Aquitaine. In heraldry, lions symbolize royal power, courage, and noble character. A lion shown rampantrearing up on its back legsstands for bravery and battle readiness, while a lion passant, depicted walking with one paw raised, suggests calm strength and honor.
