The Royal Mint introduced the British Silver Britannia series in 1997, starting with sterling silver coins. By 2013, these coins were upgraded to .999 pure silver, making them even more sought after by collectors. Provident Metals now offers the 2025 British Britannia 1/4 oz Silver Coins for purchase.

Highlights:

  • Comes in a flip or a tube of 19 coins!
  • 29th annual release in the British Britannia collection!
  • Contains 1/4 Troy oz of .999 pure silver in BU condition.
  • Face value of 50 Pence backed by the British government.
  • King Charles III appears on the obverse.
  • Britannia graces the reverse.

The 2025 British Britannia 1/4 oz Silver Coins come in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Each coin is available individually in a plastic flip or in multiples of 19 within protective tubes. The reverse features a beautiful radial sun effect, while the obverse includes a detailed guilloche pattern.

Obverse

The obverse of the 2025 British Britannia Silver Coins showcases the first portrait of King Charles III. Designed by Martin Jennings in 2022, this left-profile image, without a crown, first appeared on British coins in 2023. The inscriptions read CHARLES III, D.G. REX. F.D., and 50 PENCE.

Reverse

The reverse design of 2025 Britannia 1/4 oz Silver Coins, created by Philip Nathan in 1987, features Britannia standing tall with a trident in her right hand and an olive branch in her left, resting on a Union Jack shield. Britannia wears a Corinthian helmet in this design, highlighting her strong and determined character. Inscriptions here include BRITANNIA, 2025, 1/4 OZ, and 999 FINE SILVER.

History

Britannia became a symbol of British patriotism and imperialism in the 17th and 18th centuries. Often depicted with a trident symbolizing naval power, a Union Jack-adorned shield, and sometimes a lion, she represents the enduring strength and spirit of Britain.
