Obverse

On the obverse of the 2025 Australian Kangaroo Silver Coins, there is a portrait of His Majesty King Charles III. This design was crafted for the Perth Mint by Dan Thorne and features the King in left-profile relief without a crown. This marks the first-generation portrait of Charles III to appear on Australian coinage. The inscriptions include CHARLES III, AUSTRALIA, and 1 DOLLAR.

Reverse

The reverse side of the 2025 Kangaroo 1 oz Silver Coin showcases an image of a leaping kangaroo. This design draws inspiration from a historical depiction of the kangaroo that was featured on the Australian copper penny. The kangaroo is presented in left-profile relief, complemented by stylized rays of the sun in the background. Inscriptions include AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO, 2025, 1 OZ 9999 FINE SILVER, and the P mint mark.

History

The four most common species of kangaroo include the Red Kangaroo, Eastern Grey Kangaroo, Western Grey Kangaroo, and Antilopine Kangaroo. Each species is adapted to various environments across Australia. For example, the expansive Australian outback is home to the Red Kangaroo, the largest living marsupial. These striking animals can often be seen bounding across the red sands at dawn and dusk, their reddish fur harmonizing beautifully with their surroundings.
