Obverse

The obverse side of the 2025 American Eagle Gold Coin depicts Lady Liberty, a design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens from 1907. This famous image shows Liberty holding a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. The design was originally created for the $20 Double Eagle coin and remained in circulation until 1933. The inscriptions read LIBERTY and 2025.

Reverse

The reverse of the 2025 Eagle 1 oz Gold Coin shows a modern interpretation of the bald eagle. This updated design, introduced in 2021 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the series, features the eagle’s head in left-profile relief with intricate detail. Inscriptions here read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, E PLURIBUS UNUM, 1 OZ FINE GOLD, and 50 DOLLARS.

History

The reverse of the American Gold Eagle Coin features a representation of the American bald eagle, which has been a part of the design since the coin’s creation. The bald eagle holds a significant place in Native American cultures, where it is seen as a messenger between humans and the divine. Its feathers are sacred and are often used in religious ceremonies.
