Obverse
On the obverse of the 2024-W Proof American Buffalo Gold Coin, you’ll find a dignified depiction of an indigenous American figure, crafted by Fraser as a composite portrait inspired by three prominent indigenous leaders of the early 20th century. The inscriptions include LIBERTY, 2024, Fraser’s F initial, and the W mint mark.
Reverse
Turning to the reverse of 2024-W Proof Buffalo 1 oz Gold Coins, behold the majestic left-profile image of the American bison, reminiscent of Black Diamond from New York City’s Central Park Zoo. Grazing on a small mound of dirt, the bison symbolizes the rugged beauty of the American frontier. Inscriptions on this side include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, $50, and 1 OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD.
History
On the reverse side, Fraser depicted a powerful American buffalo, or bison, standing on a mound. The buffalo symbolizes the ruggedness and vitality of the American West, as well as the nation’s frontier spirit and natural heritage. The design is emblematic of the harmonious relationship between Native Americans and the natural world.
