History

One of the most distinctive behaviors of African leopards is their habit of hoisting their kills into trees. After making a kill, a leopard will often drag its prey up into a tree, sometimes carrying animals heavier than themselves. This behavior serves multiple purposes: it protects their food from scavengers like hyenas and lions, keeps the meat cooler and away from insects, and allows the leopard to feed in relative safety.
