The original Prehistoric Life Series of coins gained a strong following, leading to the launch of a second series in 2024. Known as the Prehistoric Life II Series, this collection introduces new dinosaurs, including the Utahraptor. One of the largest species in the raptor family, the Utahraptor could grow up to 23 feet long and weigh as much as 1,500 pounds. Provident Metals now has the 2024 Proof Congo Utahraptor 1/2 Gram Gold Coin available.

Highlights:

  • Arrives inside a protective plastic capsule!
  • 3rd coin in the Prehistoric Life II Series!
  • Proof gold specimens!
  • Limited mintage of only 2,000 coins!
  • Contains 1/2 Gram (.01607 Troy oz) of .9999 pure gold.
  • Bears a face value of 100 Francs backed by the Democratic Republic of Congo.
  • The obverse features the national coat of arms.
  • On the reverse is a depiction of the Utahraptor.

Each 2024 Proof Congo Utahraptor 1/2 Gram Gold Coin is packaged in a clear plastic capsule to help protect its finish. This release is the third in the Prehistoric Life II Series, following earlier coins featuring the Triceratops and Suchomimus. These coins feature a proof strike with frosted design elements and mirrored fields.

Obverse

The obverse of the 2024 Proof Congo Utahraptor Gold Coin displays the national coat of arms of the Democratic Republic of Congo. This design includes a forward-facing leopards head centered above a slab of stone, flanked by an elephant tusk and a spear. Inscriptions include REPUBLIQUE DEMOCRATIQUE DU CONGO, 0.5 G AU 999.9, and 100 FRANCS.

Reverse

On the reverse side of 2024 Proof Utahraptor 1/2 Gram Gold Coins, youll find a detailed image of the Utahraptor. While many dinosaur reconstructions show scaly skin, scientists think the Utahraptor may have had feathers. Though there is no direct fossil evidence yet, its close relationship to other feathered species makes this a likely possibility. Feathers may have been used to keep warm or as a display feature. Inscriptions read UTAHRAPTOR, 131-26 MIO YEARS BC, and 2024.

History

Utahraptors lived around 125 million years ago during the Early Cretaceous period in what is now eastern Utah. These carnivorous dinosaurs were much larger than the better-known Velociraptor, which was only about the size of a modern turkey. Utahraptors had large curved claws, each reaching up to 15 inches, which were likely used for hunting.
