Obverse

On the reverse of this 2024 EC8 Regatta 1 oz Silver Coin, a sailboat glides across the peaceful waters of a Caribbean bay. This image captures the essence of modern-day regattas, which continue to play an important role in the culture and identity of Caribbean nations, especially since many gained independence in the mid-1900s. The inscriptions include ANGUILLA and 2024.

History

Sailing regattas have been part of Caribbean history for centuries. During the colonial era, European settlers brought sailing culture with them, organizing races between merchant ships and naval vessels. These races helped build community among island residents and tested the skills of local sailors.
