The Chinese dragon holds a significant place in Chinese history, culture, mythology, and the Zodiac. While there isn’t a specific set of traits for a Lilac, or purple, dragon, certain colors are associated with dragons in general. Right now, 2024 Colorized Australian Lunar Lilac Dragon 1/2 oz Silver Coins are available at Provident Metals.

Obverse

The obverse of the 2024 Colorized Australian Lunar Lilac Dragon Silver Coin features a portrait of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen is shown at the age of 89 wearing the George IV State Diadem. This 2015 design by Jody Clark is the sixth and final effigy of the Queen to appear on Australian coins. Inscriptions on this side read ELIZABETH II, 1952-2022, AUSTRALIA, 1/2 OZ 9999 AG, and 50 CENTS.

Reverse

On the reverse side of the 2024 Colorized Lunar Lilac Dragon 1/2 oz Silver Coins is an image of a Chinese dragon. The idea of purple dragons is more common in Western-inspired or fusion fantasy that incorporates Chinese elements. This fusion of Western color symbolism (where purple signifies magic or royalty) with Chinese dragon lore results in new, hybrid mythical creatures. The inscriptions read DRAGON, 2024, the P125 mint mark, and the Chinese emblem for the dragon.

History

The traditional Five Elements (Wu Xing) in Chinese philosophy are Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. Each has associated colors, but purple isn’t among them. This means a purple dragon wouldn’t have a straightforward elemental association in the traditional system, potentially making it unique or transcendent of usual categories in a modern fantasy context.
