Obverse
The obverse of the 2024 Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coin captivates with the all-new bust of His Majesty King Charles III. Showcased in left-profile relief, this remarkable portrayal pays homage to the legacy of the crown, departing from the traditional right-profile relief featured during Queen Elizabeth II’s reign. It is customary for monarch portraits to change orientation when a new king ascends the throne. Inscriptions read CHARLES III, 10 DOLLARS, and 2024.
Reverse
On the reverse side of the 2024 Maple Leaf 1/4 oz Gold Coins, you’ll find Walter Ott’s magnificent depiction of the sugar maple leaf. This cherished emblem adorns countless governmental seals and the national flag of Canada. Ott’s design expertly captures the intricate details of this iconic symbol, beautifully illuminated in natural light. Inscriptions include CANADA, 9999, FINE GOLD, and 1 OZ OR PUR.
History
Since 1990, the Royal Canadian Mint has been renowned for crafting distinctive portraits of the reigning monarch for Canadian currency, including their esteemed bullion collections. The 2023 Maple Leaf Series marked the final appearance of Her Late Majesty’s effigy, making way for the introduction of King Charles III’s new bust. This transitional period allowed Canadian artists to create a fitting tribute to the new king.
