{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}The Perth Mints Next Generation Series honors the connection between adult animals and their young in Australias unique wildlife. Each release in the series features a different native species, captured in a design that reflects this parent-offspring relationship. Coins in the series are minted using piedfort blanks and come in 2 oz and 10 oz sizes. Right now, Provident Metals offers the 2024 Australian The Next Generation Emu Mother and Baby 10 oz Silver Coin.
Highlights:
Each 2024 Australian The Next Generation Emu Mother and Baby 10 oz Silver Coin comes packaged in a plastic capsule. These coins are made using piedfort blanks, which are thicker than standard coins. While the diameter remains the same as smaller denominations, the thickness adds more weight, offering collectors a unique format based on old minting traditions.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2024 Australian The Next Generation Emu Mother and Baby Silver Coin includes a portrait of King Charles III. This design, created by Dan Thorne in 2024, marks the first official image of the king to appear on Australian coinage. It shows him in left-profile without a crown. The inscriptions here read CHARLES III, AUSTRALIA, 10 OZ 9999 AG, and 10 DOLLARS.
Reverse
On the reverse side of the 2024 The Next Generation Emu Mother and Baby 10 oz Silver Coin, youll see an image of a parent emu along with three chicks. The male emu is known for being a protective father, using sound, size, and movement to ward off predators. He stays with his young for up to half a year, helping them develop and stay safe until theyre old enough to fend for themselves. Inscriptions here read 2024 and the P125 mint mark.
History
In the emu species, it’s the male who plays the most active role in raising the young. After the female lays her dark-colored eggs in a simple nest, she moves on while the male takes charge. He incubates the eggs over the course of around eight weeks, leaving the nest only briefly to eat or drink, often losing a considerable amount of weight during this time.
