All of the 2024 Australian Lunar Dragon 1 oz Platinum Coins are available for purchase in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. They come securely encased in acrylic capsules and proudly feature a special P125 mint mark on the reverse, a tribute to the 125th anniversary of Perth Mints establishment.
Obverse
On the obverse side of the 2024 Australian Lunar Dragon Platinum Coins, you’ll find a detailed portrait of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This design, crafted by Jody Clark in 2015, portrays Her Late Majesty at the age of 89, adorned with the George IV State Diadem. Inscriptions include ELIZABETH II, 1952-2022, AUSTRALIA, 1 OZ 9995 PT, and 100 DOLLARS.
Reverse
Turning to the reverse, the 2024 Lunar Dragon 1 oz Platinum Coin showcases an exquisite image of the Chinese dragon. The mythical creature is depicted in a graceful S-shaped pose with stylized waves and fog in the background. Alongside the P125 mint mark, you’ll notice an embedded micro-engraved security feature on this side. Inscriptions read DRAGON, 024, P125, and the Chinese symbol for the dragon.
History
In Chinese culture, the dragon holds a special place as one of the 12 animal signs in the Chinese Zodiac, which is based on the lunar calendar. Each year is associated with a specific animal, and the Year of the Dragon is among these 12 years. Those born in the Year of the Dragon are believed to inherit the dragon’s unique traits and characteristics.
