Obverse

On the obverse, discover the timeless bust of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, a design crafted by Ian Rank-Broadley in 1998. This right-profile portrait remains an enduring tribute, continuing to grace coins more than 25 years after its introduction and over a year after the passing of the Late Queen. The inscriptions read QUEEN ELIZABETH II, 1 DOLLAR, TUVALU, 2023, 1952-2022, and 1 OZ 9999 AG.

Reverse

Turning to the reverse side, witness Apollo depicted with a harp in his hands, honoring his role as a patron of the arts, especially music and poetry. The lyre, often associated with Apollo, was believed to have been invented by the god himself. The reverse design pays homage to Apollo’s connection with the Muses, goddesses of the arts. Inscriptions here include APOLLO.

History

Apollo, often known as the God of War from epic tales like the Iliad and Odyssey, is equally celebrated as the god of the sun and light. This coin captures the essence of enlightenment and knowledge associated with Apollo’s symbolism of the sun.
