{{/presale}}Discover the allure of the East India Company’s modern trade dollar series with the latest addition, the 2023 St. Helena US Trade Dollar 1 oz Silver Coin, now available at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
The Trade Dollar was first authorized by the Coinage Act of 1873 with the specific aim of facilitating trade with Asian countries, including China. It was introduced to compete with other trade coins like the Spanish 8 reales and Mexican pesos, which were widely accepted in international trade during that era.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2023 US Trade Dollar 1 oz Silver Coin features the new bust of His Majesty King Charles III, exclusively created for the East India Company and the Issuing Authority of St. Helena. The left-profile relief of the King without a crown on his head reflects a design similar to the Royal Mint’s portrayal. Inscriptions include CHARLES III, D.G. REX F.D., ST. HELENA, 1 POUND, and 2023.
Reverse
On the reverse side of the 2023 St. Helena US Trade Dollar Silver Coin, you’ll find a striking modern image of Lady Liberty. She stands tall in the foreground, with her cascading, curly hair flowing over her shoulder as she holds a torch in her right hand and wears a crown of stars. Behind her, the outline of the United States is filled with the Stars and Stripes. Inscriptions on this side include TRADE DOLLAR and the EIC mint mark.
History
The Trade Dollar’s production for circulation ceased in 1878, but the coin continued to be struck in limited quantities for collectors until 1885. In 1887, the Coinage Act demonetized the Trade Dollar, officially ending its status as legal tender both domestically and internationally.

Each 2023 St. Helena US Trade Dollar 1 oz Silver Coin comes securely protected in flips, preserving their brilliant uncirculated condition.
