Obverse
On the obverse side of the 2023 Peace Dollars, you’ll find a captivating depiction of Lady Liberty. This design by Anthony di Francisci portrays Lady Liberty’s left-profile bust, adorned with a radiant crown and her hair flowing gracefully in the breeze. Inscriptions read LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRVST, and 2023.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 2023 Peace Dollar Silver Coins features an American bald eagle, also designed by Anthony di Francisci. The eagle, perched at the edge of a rock cliff, grasps only the olive branch of peace, symbolizing harmony. Its wings rest peacefully at its sides, honoring the theme of peace. The inscriptions here include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, ONE DOLLAR, and PEACE.
History
The Peace Silver Dollar holds a special place in the lineage of US silver dollar coins. It followed the Seated Liberty Dollar, which circulated from 1838 to 1873, and the Morgan Silver Dollar, minted from 1878 to 1904 and again in 1921. In the final days of 1921, the US Mint introduced the Peace Dollar, striking it annually from 1921 to 1928 and again briefly in 1934 and 1935.
