{{/presale}}In 2023, the United States Mint has reintroduced the beloved Morgan Dollar and Peace Dollar in a modern form. Collectors now have the opportunity to own the 2023 Morgan Dollar Silver Coins, a .999 pure silver version of one of America’s most iconic silver dollars. Provident Metals is excited to offer these certified coins for purchase online, allowing you to add a piece of history to your collection.
Highlights:
The Morgan Silver Dollar, first minted in 1878, was born out of the Bland-Allison Act, which required the US Treasury to convert a specific amount of silver bullion into silver dollars each month. Designed by George T. Morgan, this coin was created to replace the Seated Liberty Dollar and has since become a cherished symbol of American heritage.
Obverse
The obverse side of the 2023 Morgan Silver Dollars features the striking effigy of Lady Liberty. Designed by George T. Morgan in 1878, this left-profile bust captures Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap, coronet crown, and a laurel wreath, symbolizing freedom and strength. Inscriptions on this side read E PLURIBUS UNUM, LIBERTY, and 2023.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 2023 Morgan Dollar, you’ll find a unique rendition of the heraldic eagle, also designed by George T. Morgan. This captivating image portrays a majestic bald eagle facing forward, with its wings spread wide, clutching the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons. Inscriptions here include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and ONE DOLLAR.
History
Over the course of its production, the Morgan Silver Dollar was minted at several U.S. mints, including Philadelphia (no mintmark), New Orleans (O), Carson City (CC), San Francisco (S), and Denver (D). The mintmarks can be found on the reverse side, just below the wreath. Some Morgan Dollars minted in Carson City are highly sought after by collectors due to their limited mintage and historical significance.
