The 2021 Morgan Silver Dollar was released in five total versions, with each issue meant to reflect one of the historic mints connected to the original Morgan Dollar production years of 1878 to 1904, plus the last year of 1921. Each 2021 Morgan Dollar Silver Coin in this listing is a 2021 Morgan Silver Dollar certified as MS69. An MS69 coin has full mint brilliance with only slight imperfections visible under close inspection. These may include up to two tiny contact marks or faint hairlines, and they must be located outside the most important design areas. While your coin will be MS69, we are not able to promise a specific mint mark or a particular label style in the slab.
Obverse
On the obverse of each 2021 Morgan Dollar Coin is Lady Liberty shown in left-profile relief. George T. Morgans 1878 design presents Liberty with a Phrygian cap, a coronet, and a laurel wreath, a combination that became one of the most recognized looks in American coinage. The inscriptions include E PLURIBUS UNUM, LIBERTY, and 2021.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2021 Morgan Dollar Silver Coin displays the heraldic eagle design. Also created by Morgan in 1878, this image features a front-facing bald eagle with wide-spread wings. The eagle grasps arrows and an olive branch in its talons, a familiar pairing of symbols on classic US coin designs. The inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and ONE DOLLAR. If mint/privy marks are present, you will find either the S, D, CC, or O mark on this side.
History
The 2021 Morgan Silver Dollar series included five issues in all. Coins were struck at Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Denver. Philadelphia coins do not have a mint mark, while the San Francisco and Denver issues show S or D mint marks. To help complete the lineup and represent former Morgan Dollar mints, Philadelphia also issued coins with CC and O privy marks in honor of the Carson City and New Orleans mints.
