Obverse

Queen Elizabeth II is depicted on the obverse side of 2023 Japanese Trade Dollar Coins. This depiction of the Queen was created in 2015 by Jody Clark for the Royal Mint and is the definitive, final portrait of Her Majesty to grace British and Commonwealth coinage. In this portrait, the Queen is shown at the age of 89 wearing the George IV State Diadem. The field includes inscriptions that read QUEEN ELIZABETH II, ST. HELENA, ONE POUND, and 2023.

Reverse

In the reverse design of the 2023 Japanese Trade Dollar 1 oz Silver Coin, you will find a powerful Japanese dragon. The dragon is shown here in the foreground as it clutches a pearl orb in its talons. The background has a stylized globe that includes the islands of Japan in the focal area. The inscriptions on this side include TRADE DOLLAR and the East India Company mint mark.

History

Japans original trade dollar was much different than this modern bullion piece. While this is a 1 Troy oz .999 pure silver coin, the Japanese trade dollar had 26.96 Grams of 90% silver.
