{{/presale}}The twelve-year cycle of the Chinese lunar calendar brings in the Year of the Rabbit for 2023. Specifically, it brings in a “Water Rabbit” or “Gui Mao” year associated with intelligence, clear thinking, and creativity. Multiple coin series around the world commemorate the Chinese lunar cycle, a subject that has attained global popularity over the past four decades, but the leading annual releases have always come from the Central Mint of China, which has been struck in gold and silver lunar collectibles since 1981. The crown of their silver range for the Year of the Rabbit celebrates the mythology associated with this beloved zodiac animal: the 2023 Chinese Lunar Year of the Rabbit 1 Kilo Silver Coin is now available for purchase online from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
The 2023 Chinese Lunar Year of the Rabbit Silver Coin features mirror-like fields and frosted decorations of a proof-quality coin, crafted using hand-selected planchets, polished dies, and multiple strikes. It comes with a mint-issued Certificate of Authenticity in elegant box packaging, and each shipment is fully insured by the team at Provident Metals.
Obverse
The obverse side features China’s national emblem surrounded by a decorative border. That border carries inscriptions of the year of issue and “People’s Republic of China” in Mandarin Chinese.
Reverse
The reverse side features a Rabbit set against a full Moon background, emphasizing the traditional myth of the Jade Rabbit associated with the zodiac sign. This is accompanied by swirling stylized clouds and inscriptions that read “Gui Mao” and “300 Yuan.”
History
The Rabbit in Chinese folklore is at its root a symbol of peace and longevity, as illustrated by mythic stories of the Jade Rabbit — a dweller in the divine palace of the Goddess Chang-e on the Moon — in ancient tradition. The Jade Rabbit was elevated to immortality, in one legend, after selflessly sacrificing itself as food to a starving man. After arriving on the moon in their immortalized form, the Rabbit became Chang-e’s companion and the master of a mysterious elixir of life that they mixed under the boughs of a cassia tree.
