{{/presale}}The Transvaal lion has been the national symbol of Burundi since the late 17th century, starting out on the coat of arms of the royal Ganwa house that ruled over the region’s combined Hutu and Tutsi populations. That symbolism survived the era of European colonialism in the 19th and 20th centuries to be bequeathed to the independent Republic of Burundi, and it remains important to the country down to the present day. The wild lion populations of Burundi have seen their natural habitats shrink over the years, but today they have a home in the country’s northeast in the conservationist sanctuary of Ruvubu National Park. The magnificence of the lion is celebrated in pure gold by the 2023 Burundi Lion 1/2 Gram Gold Coin, now available from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
The 2023 Burundi Lion Gold Coin offers detailed medallic artwork and an immaculate finish, and ships in a secure plastic container. These affordable, entry-level gold pieces are ideal for the beginning collector and are drawn from a limited mintage. Provident Metals fully insures every shipment against even the remote chance of loss or damage in transit.
Obverse & Reverse
The Coat of Arms of Burundi dominates the coin’s obverse field: a shield charged with a lion’s head, accompanied by a trio of traditional spears and surrounded by the national motto. The reverse field features a maned lion and a cub in a savannah wilderness setting, accompanied by the inscriptions “LION” and “2023.”
