{{/presale}}The British Gold Britannia Series was first introduced by The Royal Mint in 1987, often featuring Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. After her death in September 2022, The Royal Mint began transitioning to King Charles III. This transition occurred in 2023, but not before issuing the final batches of Britannias with Queen Elizabeth IIs effigy. Right now, 2023 British Britannia 1 oz Gold Coins are available in near-perfect condition at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 2023 British Britannia 1 oz Gold Coin here is graded Mint State 69. These coins show their original mint luster with no more than two small imperfections. These minor marks are located outside the main visual areas.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2023 British Britannia Gold Coin features a right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. This final effigy shows her at age 89, wearing the George IV State Diadem Crown. Created by Jody Clark in 2015, this portrait first appeared on Royal Mint coins in 2016. The inscriptions include 100 POUNDS, ELIZABETH II, and D.G. REG. F.D.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 2023 Britannia 1 oz Gold Coins, Britannia is depicted. Britannia is the personification of Britain, a name derived from the Ancient Roman term for the British Isles. She symbolizes Britains naval power and defensive strength. The inscriptions read BRITANNIA, 2023, 1 OZ, and 999.9 FINE GOLD.
History
Significantly, the NGC has confirmed that these coins are among the last 500 in the 2023 Gold Britannia Series to bear Queen Elizabeth IIs image on the obverse. Queen Elizabeth IIs reign lasted from February 6, 1952, to September 8, 2022, making her the longest-reigning British monarch.
