{{/presale}}The Gold Britannia Series has long featured a single monarch on its obverse. After Queen Elizabeth II’s passing in September 2022, The Royal Mint began issuing coins with King Charles III on the obverse for the first time. However, the initial 2023 coins were still struck with Queen Elizabeth II’s effigy one last time. Right now, you can purchase certified-perfect 2023 British Britannia 1/10 oz Gold Coins from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
These 2023 British Britannia 1/10 oz Gold Coins are available here in perfect Mint State 70 condition, exhibiting full, original mint luster with no detracting flaws. These coins are among the last 500 struck by The Royal Mint for the 2023 Britannia Series.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2023 British Britannia Gold Coin displays the last effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Created by Jody Clark in 2015, this portrait shows the Queen in right-profile relief at the age of 89, wearing the George IV State Diadem Crown. The inscriptions include 10 POUNDS, ELIZABETH II, and D.G. REG. F.D.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 2023 Britannia 1/10 oz Gold Coin features Philip Nathans timeless depiction of Britannia. Designed in 1987, it presents Britannia in full-length, wearing a Corinthian helmet, holding a trident in her right hand to symbolize Britains control of the seas, and resting her left hand on a Union Jack shield to symbolize her defense of the homeland. Inscriptions on this side include BRITANNIA, 2023, 1/10 OZ, and 999.9 FINE GOLD.
History
The Britannia Series from The Royal Mint had exclusively featured Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse up until 2023. From 1987 to 2022, her image appeared on all gold coins, and from 1997 to 2022, on all silver coins, with a total of five different portraits. Early in 2023, her effigy was used one final time before the introduction of King Charles III.
