History
First introduced in 2021 by the United States Mint, the Armed Forces Medal Collection has quickly become popular for many people around the world. Each year, the U.S. Mint is proud to release silver medal medals to honor each branch of the United States military, especially through detailed designs and imagery. Many enthusiasts of medals, as well as other viewers, will continue to cherish this collection in the years to come.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 2022 U.S. Mint Air Force 1 oz Silver Medal is the image of three F-22 fighter jets flying through the sky, which is a design that was created by artist Paul C. Balan. The pilot seen in the foreground of the design wears an air mask and watches intently into the horizon. The fighter jets are set in front of an incredibly detailed clouded background on the medal.
Reverse
The image of an Air Force Memorial ceremony is shown on the reverse of the 2022 U.S. Mint Air Force 1 oz Silver Medal. This design was created by artist Jamie Franki. The image shows three airmen, each holding a gun upright as if preparing to shoot for the sake of the memorial ceremony. There is a special inscription across the top of the reverse that reads: Service before Self. Integrity first. Excellence in all we do.
