One of the easiest ways to add a lot of silver to your stack is to buy large-weight coins. Silver bar coins often offer the chance to add as much as 1,000 grams of precious metal to your collection while also enjoying the imagery and stories associated with coins. The 2022 Tokelau Goddess Europa 1 Kilo Silver Coin is just such an item.

Highlights

  • Coin is protected by sealed plastic for shipping!
  • Part of 2022 minting!
  • Contains 1 Kilo of .9999 pure silver in BU condition.
  • Coin’s face value is 50 NZD and is backed by Tokelau.
  • The goddess Europa riding a bull that’s Zeus in disguise featured on the obverse.
  • Elizabeth II portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley on the reverse.

Obverse
The inscriptions on the obverse spell out GODDESS EUROPA, FINE SILVER 999.9 and1000 G. A serial number is also inscribed on each bar. Above the lettering is an engraved image of Europa riding on the back of a bull. According to Greek mythological stories, the bull is Zeus in disguise trying to seduce or abduct Europa. When she climbed on his back, thinking that he was a tame bull, he ran away and took her with him. Zeus ran all the way to the sea and swam across it to Crete. According to legends, Europa had three of the god’s sons before marrying a king of Crete. The king supposedly adopted those sons and she became a queen.

Reverse
The inscriptions on the reverse of the coin spell out ELIZABETH II, TOKELAU, 2022, and 50 DOLLARS. They are arranged around the effigy of Her Majesty just as they would be on a standard round coin. The portrait of Elizabeth II is the one created by Ian Rank-Broadley in 1998. This image was used exclusively on official coinage in the UK until a new image was created in 2015. The IRB effigy is still used across the globe on coins, especially in nations that are required to include the queen’s image.

Packaging
The coin ships in protective plastic. The clear plastic can be used to protect the coin from general elements like dust while you store or display it.

History
While the myth of Europa is mentioned in numerous works of ancient literature, the Greek historian Herodotus has a more rational explanation of how Europa might have ended up on the island of Crete. He says that a group of people, possibly from Crete, abducted her from her home in response to the kidnapping of Io.
