{{/presale}}The Mexican Libertad coin series was designed by the Mexican Mint — the oldest mint in the Americas — with the aim of celebrating the storied history of Mexico since the War of Independence in 1810. A range of bullion coins issued annually for over forty years and prized by investors and collectors, it celebrates the shields and coats of arms that have identified Mexico over a span of multiple decades, and pays tribute to the Monument to Independence commissioned and built by President Porfirio Diaz in 1910 for the centennial anniversary of the struggle that defined modern Mexico. The Winged Victory statue has been featured in a range of designs on every Libertad coin, including the 2022 Reverse Proof Mexican Libertad 2oz Silver Coin now available from Provident Metals.
Coin Highlights:
The 2022 Reverse Proof Mexican Libertad Silver Coin features a reverse-proof design with frosted backgrounds and polished reliefs, and ships fully insured against loss or damage in a protective plastic capsule. The current supply draws on an exclusive original mintage of just 1,000 pieces.
Obverse
The coin’s obverse field shows the national shield of Mexico with the inscription “ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.” It’s surrounded by ten historical coats of arms from different prior eras in Mexico.
Reverse
Created by French sculptor Enrique Alciati, the Winged Victory statue that crowns Mexico City’s Monument to Independence appears on the coin’s reverse field, with the volcanoes Popocatpetl and Iztacchuatl in the background. This is accompanied by the Mexican Mint’s mark and inscriptions verifying the coin’s weight, year of issue, and purity.
History
First issued in 1982, the Libertad coin series has offered annual releases of bullion collectibles struck in multiple precious metals. Favorites of collectors and investors from all over the world, these coins are the products of a mint whose history goes back to its founding in 1535, and they celebrate the legacy of Independence with a guarantee from the Banco de Mexico that allows them to be recognized as currency even without a face value, trading instead at the market value of their metal contents. Coins like this current offering, featuring an unusual reverse-proof vintage, are struck in especially limited mintages with the collectors’ market specifically in mind.
