Coin Highlights:
Each 2022 Proof St. Helena Gothic Crown Silver Coin is delivered to you inside a beautiful presentation box. Included by the mint is a Certificate of Authenticity and a booklet with historical information about the coin. These coins are proof specimens, which means they were struck twice early in the minting process to give them a mirror-like appearance.
Obverse
On the obverse side of 2022 Proof St. Helena Gothic Crown 5 oz Coins is an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. During Her Majestys reign, there have only been five portraits designed for British coinage. This image from Jody Clark was released in 2015 as the fifth definitive portrait of The Queen. Along the edge of the coin, youll find the words ELIZABETH II, D G REGINA F D, ST. HELENA, FIVE POUNDS.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2022 Proof Gothic Crown 5 oz Silver Coin shows a remastered version of the 1847 Gothic Crown design. At the center, youll find the Order of the Garter arms and surrounding it a cruciform shield design. Between each shield is a flower, representing England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Along the edge of the coin are Latin words that read TUEATUR UNITA DEUS ANNO DOM MDCCCXLVII. This translates to May God Guard these United Kingdoms, Year of Our Lord 1847.
History
As a response to Neoclassical architecture and unprecedented changes in culture and industry, the Gothic Revival was established. This phase saw a rebirth of Medieval styles in all types of
buildings, especially churches. William Dyce recognized these shifts and utilized this newfound appreciation for Gothic imagery in designing the iconic Gothic Crown reverse image. This can be seen in the coins ornate style, attention to detail, and Medieval script lettering along the rim.
