{{/presale}}The Gothic Crown is not simply a historical coin. Its a masterful work of art, as well. Now, Provident Metals is eager to offer a new silver coin that pays tribute to this beloved specimen. Developed by The East India Company as the third issue in their Masterpiece Collection, these new coins feature replicas of original 1847 artwork from engraver William Wyon and artist William Dyce. Today, you can purchase 2022 Proof St. Helena Gothic Crown 1 Kilo Silver Coins online at Provident Metals.
Coin Highlights:
The Gothic Crown is a historic English coin from 1847. At the request of Queen Victoria, engraver William Wyon set about to create a new coin in honor of the Queens ten-year anniversary. The coin gets its name because of the reverse design by artist William Dyce, which drew heavily on the Gothic Revival of the time.
Obverse
The obverse side of 2022 Proof St. Helena Gothic Crown Coins features Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This portrait marks only the fifth official portrait of the Queen used for coinage since she took the throne in 1952. Youll find inscriptions along the edge reading ELIZABETH II, D G REGINA F D, ST. HELENA, FIVE POUNDS.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 2022 Proof Gothic Crown Silver Coin features a replica image of William Dyces famous cruciform design. There are four shields in the shape of a cross, and in the center, we see the Order of the Garter arms. Flowers representing the four United Kingdom nations feature in the background. In ornate lettering along the edge is a Latin inscription reading TUEATUR UNITA DEUS ANNO DOM MDCCCXLVII. This translates to May God Guard these United Kingdoms, Year of Our Lord 1847.
History
The Masterpiece Collection was launched in June of 2021 by The East India Company in collaboration with the treasury of St. Helena. The inaugural coin in the collection was based on the Three Graces from engraver William Wyon. The second coin in the series depicted the iconic Una and the Lion design from 1839. The Gothic Crown coins mark the 3rd release in this ambitious series.
