History
The Faerie Queen has roots based in mythology and is known for bringing a rich tradition of storytelling to the table. The highlighted scene on this coin shows Una talking to the Redcrosse Knight. Its known that the Redcrosse Knight is the one who defeats the dragon, which is a popular story arc found in many stories and forms of media still today. This particular story is taken from Edmund Spensers epic poetry, which has laid the foundation for the fantasy genre today.
Obverse
The portrait of Queen Elizabeth II is shown on the obverse of the 2022 Proof St. Helena Faerie Queene 2 oz Coin. This right-facing effigy of Her Majesty was created by Jody Clark in 2015. The Queen is shown wearing the Royal Diamond Diadem Crown, along with a beautiful pearl necklace. The words circling the Queens effigy include the coins value and release year, along with the inscription, D.G. Regina, F.D, St. Helena.
Reverse
The design on the reverse of the 2022 Proof St. Helena Faerie Queene 2 oz Coin shows Una and the Redcrosse Knight. A fairytale castle can be seen in the background, as well as a large dragon that flies overhead. From the image, we can assume that the castle is under siege, and Una is attempting to appeal to the Redcrosse Knight to defeat the dragon.
