History
The Shire and its Hobbits formed the emotional core of J.R.R. Tolkien’s most famous works,The HobbitandThe Lord of the Rings. The Hobbit-hole’s signature blend of cozy prosperity and homely simplicity was the subject of careful design attention from Peter Jackson and his team when they came to adapt these stories for the silver screen. So important did these movies prove on the global stage that the film sets, complete with functioning Hobbit-holes, remain tourist attractions today. They’re thus a perfect subject for a New Zealand Mint collectible.
