{{/presale}}The New Zealand Mint has partnered with Warner Bros. Consumer Products to produce its iconic DC Classic Coin collection, celebrating a range of iconic characters from one of the most famous publishers of superhero stories in history. The latest addition to the collection is a celebration of the super-fast hero known as The Flash, the Scarlet Speedster, and the Fastest Man Alive. The 2022 Proof Niue Classic Superhero Flash 1 oz Silver Coin is now available from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Showcasing frosted artwork against mirror-like backgrounds, the 2022 Proof Niue Classic Superhero Flash Silver Coin ships fully insured in its own protective acrylic capsule. It comes nestled in the velvet lining of a themed box designed to make it display-ready on arrival, and it includes a Certificate of Authenticity to specify its unique number in the mintage.
Obverse
A legal tender effigy of Queen Elizabeth II dominates the coin’s obverse side, identifying it as legal tender of Niue. It’s joined by the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II,” “NIUE,” “TWO DOLLARS” and “2022.”
Reverse
The coin’s reverse side features the Silver Age incarnation of the Flash, both in a heroic pose and a high-speed action shot alongside the superhero’s lightning-bolt logo. A comic book panel montage forms a backdrop behind him, while inscriptions at the coin’s rim confirm the weight and purity of its silver contents along with DC’s copyright and trademark.
History
One of the pioneering superheroes in the early days of comic books — the Golden Age as it was known — was the Flash, a man possessed of super-speed who had the power to move, think and run far faster than others. The Scarlet Speedster, as he was also known, played a major role in making the DC Comics brand one of the dominant presences in comics. After a brief post-WW2 lull in the popularity of the superhero archetype, he was also one of the figures at the forefront of the genre’s charge back to profitability and prominence in what would be called the Silver Age of comic books. This version of the character, whose secret identity was Barry Allen, remains his best-known incarnation.
