Obverse
The Bank of Mongolia coat of arms is positioned at the center of 2022 Proof Mongolia Magnificent Argali Silver Coins. To the left and right sides of this design, there are horns that extend upwards before falling downwards and curving into a spiral position. Inscriptions on the obverse read 2000 TOGROG, MONGOLIA 3 OZ .999 SILVER, 2022.
Reverse
A pair of Argali sheep are found on the reverse of the 2022 Proof Mongolia Magnificent Argali 3 oz Coin. In the background, we see a front-facing Argali in extreme close-up. Slightly blocking its view is another of these sheep in standard close-up at a 3/4 angle. From this incredible vantage point, you can experience the face and horns of these animals almost as if you were there in person.
History
When you see an Argali, the first thing you will likely notice is its horns, which can account for 13% of their body mass. Despite their impressive size, these wild sheep seldom employ their horns as weapons, instead using their speed to steer clear of potential predators. That said, occasionally males will ram their horns into each other when competing for mating rights. Today, there are an estimated 80-90 thousand Argali roaming the world, with about 15 thousand in Mongolia alone.
