History

Inflation occurs when the price of goods rises. In addition to inflation, economies can also experience deflation as prices fall, and hyperinflation, which describes a rapid increase in prices. Inflation is typically caused by a supply crisis or an increase in money supply, which can create demand incommensurate with supply. In the United States, historically high periods of inflation include the Revolutionary War, WWII, and the current Covid era.
