Offered to investors in BU versions, the Lunar Series III coins are also available with limited proof mintages for each design. Highlights:
The silver coins in the Lunar Year of the Tiger proof range include two options that are available for individual purchase, with a third coin that is available only within a three-coin set. Obverse
On the obverse of 2022 Proof Australian Lunar Tiger 1/2 oz Silver Coins is the sixth-generation effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Created in 2015 by Jody Clark for the Royal Mint, this design made its Lunar Series debut at Perth Mint in 2020 with the launch of the Lunar Series III collection. The design of the Queen is accompanied by the inscriptions of ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, 1/2 OZ 9999 AG, and 50 CENTS.
Reverse
The reverse field of 2022 Proof Australian Lunar Tiger Silver Coins comes with a depiction of a family of tigers. In this design from Jennifer McKenna, an adult tiger cautiously leads its young cub through rocky terrain in the jungle. The adult keeps a watchful eye on its surroundings as the confident young cub follows behind. Inscriptions include the Chinese symbol for a tiger, as well as TIGER 2022.
History
The Lunar Series III program continues to follow the exact cycle of the Zodiac. A 12-year cycle, the Zodiac always starts with the Year of the Mouse and concludes with the Year of the Pig, with the Year of the Tiger falling third. As Perth Mint introduced its first Lunar Series collection with the Year of the Mouse in 1996, its two subsequent collections have followed the exact 12-year cycle of the calendar.
