{{/presale}}Starting in 2007, the Special Shapes series from the Coin Investment Trust has celebrated all sorts of classic shapes for everything from animals to snowflakes to automobiles. A persistently popular entry in the latter category has been the truck, a shape evoking the big rigs that literally drive the modern trucking industry and bring freight across the world’s highways and byways all around the globe. A classic design from the year 1986, in fact, directly contributed to the profile of the 2022 Palau Truck Shaped 1/2 Gram Gold Coin currently available from Provident Metals.
Coin Highlights:
Provident Metals sends the 2022 Palau Gold Truck Shaped Coin to you in its original mint capsule, nestled in black velvet, with a Certificate of Authenticity. A sovereign coin that’s valid as legal tender despite its unusual shape, it ships fully insured against even the most remote possibility of loss or damage en route.
Obverse
The crest of the Republic of Palau appears on the coin’s obverse side, along with a kayak above to refer to the means by which the island’s people reached it. This is accompanied by the inscriptions “Republic of Palau” and “1$.”
Reverse
A detailed sculpture of a heavy-duty semi-truck comprises the coin’s reverse side, with a design that closely resembles an iconic model introduced by the Peterbilt company in 1986.
History
The earliest trailer trucks were conceived as far back as 1896 as a way to speed up the process of delivering cars to buyers. The invention of the early “automobile hauler” eventually led to the birth of the modern trucking industry and the reach of overland freight to the far corners of the world on multiple generations of big rigs. One of the most iconic big rig designs of the past forty years was the Peterbilt 379, one of the best-selling semi-truck models for thirty years after its introduction in 1986, and the image that most comes often to mind for people thinking about “trucks” in the modern era. This made it a logical choice for the Coin Investment Trust’s Special Shapes series, which was created to deal in the most instantly-identifiable profiles of a variety of objects and to make them into precious collectibles.
