{{/presale}}There have been countless superhero characters since the early days of comic books, but there’s only one who stands apart as the founder of the archetype. Created in the 1930s, Superman’s debut was the birth of superheroes as we know them, and the mighty Man of Steel is celebrated today in the New Zealand Mint’s 2022 Niue Classic Superhero Superman 1 oz Silver Coin, part of their DC Comics collection.
Highlights:
The 2022 Niue Classic Superhero Superman Silver Coin features classic comic-book style portraits of its subject offset from a mirrored background by a beautiful frosted finish. It comes in a themed, velvet-lined collector’s box with a compact profile designed to ensure that it arrives ready to showcase as part of your own collection. Sure to be a hit with collectors and fans and with only a few thousand pieces in an exclusive limited mintage, this is an item you’ll want to order early. Provident Metals fully insures any shipment against loss or damage.
Reverse
The coin’s reverse side features portraits of Superman in flight and standing in a ready-for-action pose, with both high-relief images shown to best advantage by the contrast of their frosted finish with a mirrored backdrop that also features the hero’s iconic “S”-shaped shield logo. It also carries the trademark and copyright for DC and the inscription “1 oz 999 Fine Silver SUPERMAN.”
Obverse
The profile effigy of Queen Elizabeth II on the coin’s obverse side is familiar from Commonwealth circulation coins around the world, a design first attributed to Ian Rank-Broadley. This portrait is accompanied by the inscriptions “Elizabeth II,” “Niue,” “Two Dollars” and “2022.”
History
The New Zealand Mint’s long-running DC Comics collection celebrates multiple classic moments and characters from the pioneering comic book company and all-around modern media giant. Superman is the iconic heart of the DC brand, the character that first manifested the signature blend of colorful costuming, supernatural powers, a secret identity, and a firm commitment to justice that would come to define the superhero archetype. The Man of Steel has remained perennially popular since his original comic book appearance in 1938.
