History
1982 was a big year for director Steven Spielberg. In addition to releasing E.T., his production of Poltergeist also premiered in theatres. While Spielberg was only a producer on Poltergeist, it shares a common thread with E.T: both films deal with suburbia. However, while Poltergeist captured the nightmare of this idyllic locale, E.T. conjures the dream of it. Today, E.T. continues to create a feeling of magic in viewers both young and old. Not only is it one of Spielbergs finest films, but it is one of the greatest science fiction fables ever told.
