The coins arrive individually in plastic flips, with protective tubes available for multiples of 25 coins and Monster Boxes available for multiples of 500 coins. The box holds 20 separate 25-coin tubes. The Lion of England coin is the first BU release of the Tudor Beasts Series.
Obverse
On the obverse of 2022 British Tudor Beasts Lion Gold Coins is the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen of England since 1952, Elizabeth II features here in a right-profile relief that serves as the fifth-generation portrait during her reign. In this design, the Queen is shown at the age of 89 wearing the George IV State Diadem Crown. The inscriptions on this side include 25 POUNDS, ELIZABETH II, and D.G. REG F.D.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 2022 Tudor Beasts Lion 1/4 oz Gold Coin comes with an image of the mighty Lion of England. The lion is the oldest heraldic beast in English history and it is shown here with an Imperial Crown on its head. The Lion of England is seated behind a shield that has the impaled arms of King Henry VIII and his wife Jane Seymour. The inscriptions here include LION OF ENGLAND, 1/4 OZ FINE GOLD, 999.9, and 2022.
History
The Tudor Dynasty controlled the throne of England from 1485 to 1603. King Henry VII was the founder and first monarch of the dynasty. His second son, Henry, was the second to rule in the Tudor Dynasty and broke England from the Catholic Church in Rome. Henry VIIIs daughter with Anne Boleyn, Elizabeth, enjoyed the longest reign and ushered in a golden era for England.
