Obverse
The obverse of the 2022 British Sovereign Coins showcases the final portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. This right-profile image shows her at 89 years old, wearing the George IV State Diadem Crown. This effigy was designed by Jody Clark in 2015. Inscriptions read ELIZABETH II and DEI GRA REGINA FID DEF.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2022 Sovereign Gold Coins features the Royal Arms, designed by Timothy Noad. The design includes a shield with the coats of arms for England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, supported by the Lion of England and the Unicorn of Scotland. The inscriptions here read 2022 and DIEU ET MON DROIT.
History
Queen Elizabeth IIs reign is notable for many achievements, including modernizing the public image of the royal family. She allowed the daily life of the royals to be televised in 1969 and opened Buckingham Palace to the public in 1993 to help fund the restoration of Windsor Castle.

These 2022 British Sovereign Gold Coins are certified Mint State 69, indicating nearly flawless coins with original mint luster and a maximum of two minor imperfections. These flaws are limited to tiny contact marks or hairlines outside the main focal points. As DPL coins, they feature frosted devices and mirror-like fields. Each of these coins is among the last 500 struck in 2022 by The Royal Mint for the Gold Sovereign Series featuring Queen Elizabeth II.
