Obverse
Queen Elizabeth II continues to feature on the obverse of 2022 British Britannia Gold Coins. This effigy of the Queen was created in 2015 by Jody Clark and is the fifth-generation portrait of Her Majesty to feature on British coins. The design shows the Queen in right-profile relief at the age of 89 as she wears the George IV State Diadem Crown. Inscriptions on this field include ELIZABETH II, 50 POUNDS, and D.G. REG F.D.
Reverse
Britannia is depicted in the reverse design of the 2022 Britannia 1/2 oz Gold Coins. This work of art from Philip Nathan graces all versions and weights in the British Britannia Series. It shows Britannia with a trident in her right hand and a Corinthian helmet on her head. In her left hand, she holds an olive branch as her hand rests on a shield with the Union Jack. The inscriptions on this face of the coin read BRITANNIA, 2022, 1/2 OZ, and 999.9 FINE GOLD.
History
The 2021 release of British Britannia Gold Coins came with the introduction of four new security elements on the obverse. These include texture lines in the background that create the illusion of motion in the waves, a latent security image that changes from a padlock to a trident head as you move the coin, and tincture lines on the shield. You will also notice a micro-text engraving around Britannia.
