History
During her youth, it was assumed Elizabeth would lead a quiet life in the shadows of the Royal Family. Following WWI, King George V ruled the British Empire and enjoyed a period of popularity and success in the public eye. Edward, Prince of Wales was his eldest son and heir to the throne. But in 1936, Edward, now king, abdicated, which led to the succession of Elizabeths father, George VI. Following his death in 1952, she became Queen of the United Kingdom.
