Obverse

Queen Elizabeth II is on the obverse of each 2022 Colorized Australian Lunar Tiger Silver Coin. The image shows the Queen in right-profile relief with the George IV State Diadem Crown on her head. This design was created in 2015 by Jody Clark and shows the Queen at the age of 89. The field includes inscriptions that read ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, 1 KILO 9999 AG, and 30 DOLLARS.

Reverse

Tigers are depicted in the reverse design of 2022 Colorized Australian Lunar Tiger 1 Kilo Silver Coins. In this design from Jennifer McKenna, the field includes two tigers traversing the rocky terrain of the jungle. While the adult leading the pair is vigilant, the young cub is playful. Inscriptions on this side of the coin include TIGER, 2022, and the P mint mark of the Perth Mint. The Chinese symbol for a tiger is shown in the inset gold privy mark that contains 1 Gram of gold.

History

The Year of the Tiger is the third in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese Lunar Calendar. The tiger is third in the series in accordance with its finish in the Great Race, the race among animals to meet the Jade Emperor.
