Obverse
The obverse side of 2022 Australian Emu Gold Coins comes with a vision of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is shown here at the age of 89 wearing the George IV State Diadem Crown. Created in 2015 by Jody Clark, this design is the sixth-generation effigy of the Queen to feature on Australian coins. Inscriptions on this side of the coin read ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, and 100 DOLLARS.
Reverse
On the reverse face of the 2022 Australian Emu 1 oz Gold Coin is a depiction of two emus. In the foreground, youll see the head and elongated neck of the emu in right-profile relief. In the background, youll notice the full-length figure of the emu standing in the Outback in left-profile relief. Inscriptions on this side include AUSTRALIAN EMU, 2022, 1 OZ 9999 GOLD, and the P mint mark of Perth Mint.
History
Emus are the second-largest living birds behind the ostrich. Endemic to the Australian continent, emus stand around 6 feet tall on average and, like the ostrich, are flightless. However, the powerful legs of the emu allow it to run at speeds of up to 30 MPH.
