History
Most people today know Triton from popular movies like The Little Mermaid and Jason and the Argonauts. However, Triton has appeared in stories for thousands of years and can be traced back to Hesiods Theogony composed around 700 BC. Triton was known as the son of Poseidon and Amphitrite and was depicted as part man, part fish. In later literary depictions, he is often seen with a conch that he blows to both calm and disrupt the sea.
