Obverse
Queen Elizabeth II is found on the obverse of 2022 Antique Cook Islands Legacy of the Pharaohs Silver Coins. Inscribed along the rim of this popular 1998 portrait are hallmarks reading ELIZABETH II, COOK ISLANDS, 20 DOLLARS, 2022. The remainder of the obverse field consists of a remarkable overhead view of the Giza Necropolis. This image gives us an excellent sense of the layout of the Pyramids and their spatial relation to each other.
Reverse
Three Egyptian Pharaohs are found on the reverse of 2022 Antique Cook Islands Legacy of the Pharaohs 3 oz Coins. The names of these Pharaohs are as follows: Akhenaten, Thutmosis III, and Sobekneferu. The backdrop of the reverse consists of hieroglyphics as found on the Stele of Revealing, as well as an inscription reading LEGACY OF THE PHARAOHS.
History
The three Pharaohs featured on these coins have their own unique significance in the story of ancient Egypt. Akhenaten ruled from 1353-1336 BC during the Eighteenth Dynasty. He is known for introducing Atenism, a new religion built around the sun god Aten. Thutmosis III ruled from roughly 1479 to 1425. During his reign, he brought the Egyptian empire to unprecedented heights. Lastly, Sobekneferu ruled for three years during the Middle Kingdom. While other women possibly held power before her, in general she is accepted as the first female Pharaoh.
