{{/presale}}In 1913, the United States Mint introduced an overhauled design for the US Nickel. This new design was created by James Earle Fraser and approved by the administration of President William Howard Taft. The new design brought one of the first effigies of an indigenous figure to American coins. As of 2006, this design has returned to an American coin on the gold bullion American Buffalo coin. Provident Metals now has 2022 American Buffalo Gold Tribute Coins available to you for purchase online.
Highlights:
When you purchase a 2022 American Buffalo Gold Tribute Coin online from Provident Metals, you will receive a coin that is housed in a protective capsule. Each coin comes with a small display stand that allows you to put your coin on display in an upright position while housed in the capsule. A Certificate of Authenticity is also available with your purchase.
Obverse
An indigenous figure is found on the obverse of 2022 American Buffalo Gold Tribute Coins. This figure is set in right-profile relief with a stoic look on his face. James Earle Fraser created this design in 1913 by combining the facial features of three different real-world tribal leaders in the early 20th century, rather than using the features of just one individual. The field includes commemorative inscriptions of LIBERTY, 2022, and F, the last initial of Fraser.
Reverse
The American bison takes center stage on the reverse side of the 2022 American Buffalo Tribute Coin. This design was also created by Fraser in 1913 and accompanied the stoic indigenous figure on the US Nickel from 1913 to 1938. This design is based on Black Diamond, a bison that resided at the Central Park Zoo in New York City in the early 20th century. This side of the tribute coin also has commemorative inscriptions and these read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, $50, 1 OZ .9999 FINE GOLD, and the word COPY.
History
The use of the word COPY on the reverse of this tribute coin highlights the fact that these coins are not actual American Buffalo Gold Coins. Tribute coins feature historic and popular designs from bullion coinage, but with no precious metal content and no legal tender status. These designs are struck on standard alloy blanks and are finished with a thin layer of 24-karat gold to help replicate the appearance of the American Buffalo Gold Coin.
