{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}The American Eagle Gold Coins are offered by the US Mint each year in three versions and four weights. Though these have been available every year since 1986, or every year since 2006 in the Burnished Series, there has never been a year like 2021. On the 35th anniversary of the series, the mint is unveiling a new design midway through the year. As a result, across the collection the mint will feature two versions of the coin with 2021 date marks. This is your last chance to own the Proof American Eagle Gold Coin with the original design combinations. Today, you have the opportunity to perfect condition 2021-W Proof American Eagle 1 oz Gold Coins online from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
The US Mints redesign of the reverse face of its leading coins in the American Eagle Series marks a first in the history of the series. No changes have ever occurred to the reverse design of the American Eagle Silver Coin since its introduction. The only change to come to the American Eagle Gold Coins design has been a switch from Roman numerals for the date marks to Arabic numerals, a change that occurred in 1992.
Obverse
On the obverse of 2021-W Proof American Eagle 1 oz Gold Coins is an effigy of Lady Liberty. This front-facing design was created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907. It depicts Liberty walking away from Washington D.C. with the US Capitol Building visible at her feet in the background. With rays of sunshine framing her figure, she walks forward holding up a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left hand. The inscriptions on this field include Liberty, 2021, and the W mint mark of the West Point Mint.
Reverse
The reverse side of 2021-W Proof American Eagle Gold Coins features a family of bald eagles. This impressive, detailed design was created in 1986 for this series by Miley Busiek. It depicts a male eagle flying over the nest with a branch in its talons as a female eagle is depicted in the nest sheltering a young hatchling. Inscriptions on this side of the coin read United States of America, In God We Trust, E Pluribus Unum, and 1 oz. Fine Gold 50 Dollars.
History
American Eagle Gold Coins debuted in 1986 in four BU weights and a 1 oz proof weight. The fractional-ounce proofs were later introduced in 1987 and 1988, followed by the 1 oz burnished coin in 2006.
