Obverse
The obverse field of 2021-W Burnished American Eagle Silver Type 2 Coins includes a depiction of Walking Liberty. Designed by Adolph A. Weinman, this image of Liberty in left-profile relief draped in the American flag featured on the half dollar from 1916 to 1947 and has been on the American Eagle Silver Coins since 1986. Weinmans original AW signature mark is now present on the obverse field of these coins as of the Type 2 release. Inscriptions on this face include LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 2021.
Reverse
On the reverse side of 2021-W Burnished American Eagle 1 oz Silver Type 2 Coins is a new image of the American bald eagle. Created by Emily Damstra in 2020, this design shows the eagle mid-flight as it flaps its wings and carries an oak branch in its talons. The inscriptions on this side read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, 1 OZ. FINE SILVER, and ONE DOLLAR. There is also a W mint mark from the West Point Mint on this face of the coin.
History
Burnished American Eagle Silver Coins debuted in 2006 at the US Mint. Since that time, only the 2009 and 2010 date marks were not issued. The 2021 release of Burnished American Eagle Silver Coins includes only the version with the new reverse design. No 2021-dated Burnished American Eagles were issued with the original heraldic eagle design.
