Obverse

Created in 1878, this left-profile relief shows Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap with a laurel wreath and a coronet crown on her head. The design field includes 13 stars and inscriptions of E PLURIBUS UNUM, LIBERTY on the coronet, and 2021.
Reverse
The heraldic eagle of the United States features on the reverse side of 2021-S Morgan Dollar Silver Coins. Also designed by Morgan, this image shows the bald eagle in front-facing relief as it clutches the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace. The inscriptions on this field include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and ONE DOLLAR. The San Francisco Mint S mint mark features on this side beneath the wreath above the D and O in DOLLAR.
History
The San Francisco Mint opened in 1854 and currently resides in its third structure. From 1854 to 1873, it occupied the original building opened for its coining operations. In 1873, it moved to a new building that was later replaced by the modern San Francisco Mint, a structure that opened in 1937.
