Halfway through the year, new reverse designs were launched for both programs, creating two separate versions of the 2021 Silver Eagle. Collectors could choose between the original reverse and the newly introduced design. One notable release from that year is the 2-Coin Designer Set, which includes both versions of the 2021 Silver Eagle struck in reverse proof finish. Right now, 2021 Reverse Proof American Eagle Silver 2-Coin Designer Sets graded by NGC are available from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 2021 Reverse Proof American Eagle Silver 2-Coin Designer Set is sealed in a two-coin plastic slab and features a special 35th-anniversary label. A PF70 grade indicates a coin with full original mint luster and no imperfections visible under magnification. Early Release coins were delivered to NGC for grading within 30 days of the mints official release. The reverse proof finish displays mirrored design elements against frosted background fields for a distinctive appearance.
Obverse
The obverse of the coins in this 2021 Reverse Proof American Eagle Silver Designer Set highlights the Walking Liberty design. Created by Adolph A. Weinman in 1916, this image first appeared on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar. The inscriptions include LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 2021.
Reverse
On the reverse of the coins in the 2021 Reverse Proof Eagle Silver 2-Coin Designer Set, two different eagle designs are featured. The Type 1 coin shows John Mercantis heraldic eagle, while the Type 2 coin presents Emily Damstras soaring bald eagle. The inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, ONE DOLLAR, and 1 OZ. FINE SILVER.
History
In 2020, the US Mint chose Emily Damstras soaring bald eagle artwork from more than 35 proposed designs as the new reverse for the Silver Eagle. Damstra brings years of experience, including work with the Royal Canadian Mint and the United States Mint, and she is part of the Mints Artistic Infusion Program.
